If I really tell the truth to myself, I actually want to create a movement. What kind of movement? I’m still getting clear about that myself…I hope you’ll indulge me as I ponder it here as I write. First, I want people to know the real value of “being held” generously and compassionately. In my considerable experience, both personally as professionally, I know that being touched in this way is deeply restorative. It can make the difference between feeling lost and alone to feeling connected and hopeful. It can deepen relationships profoundly, both romantic and non-romantic. In the meditative experience that it is, people can feel closer to their spiritual nature and deeply connected to one another. The possibilities go on…

When I very first discovered this phenomenon, I remember exclaiming, “How is it that everybody doesn’t know about this?!” It just seemed so odd to me that we all know the activity of hugging, but yet somehow the deeper aspects of being held for longer periods of time seem to have been missed by most people.

So part of my vision is that this simple knowledge of the real value of “meditative holding” will be commonly and widely known throughout the world (not just by fringe groups). And that we will incorporate the practice into our communities in a variety of appropriate ways.

I have a dream…
